Axol's Blog

In August we went on an awesome roadtrip! We began in San Diego and drove through the desert to Las Vegas. Saw the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Joshua Tree Park, the Mohave Preserve, and the Pacific Coast Highway. There was so much hiking involved!!

We watched an amazing sunset over San Diego from the waterside of Coronado on our first night of the roadtrip!

In order to see everything we rented a car. Because I am an axolotl plushie and do not have a driver's license, I got to be in charge of the music! We blasted a lot of "cool jams" including Passion Pit, Death Cab for Cutie, and Richard Edwards.

San Diego is home to the San Diego Zoo! Did you know that the Hua Mei café in the San Diego Zoo was named after the first baby panda born in the Western Hemisphere since 1990.

Here I am in the middle of the wide-open road in Joshua Tree National Park!. The world looks so different out here. The cacti were adorable (but I didn't dare touch them).

The open road is a wonderful place to be! The rocks all looked like they came from different planets or something. And Joshua Trees?? Who is Joshua anyway...

Well, according to the National Park's Website "Known as the park namesake, the Joshua tree, Yucca brevifolia, is a member of the Agave family. (Until recently, it was considered a giant member of the Lily family, but DNA studies led to the division of that formerly huge family into 40 distinct plant families.) Like the California fan palm, Washingtonia filifera, the Joshua tree is a monocot, in the subgroup of flowering plants that also includes grasses and orchids."
